The battles for Avdiivka were among the longest and most difficult in eastern Ukraine. The city had been under constant shelling for years, and with the start of the full-scale invasion, it became one of the key points of confrontation. Russian troops repeatedly attempted to break through the defences, using massive assaults, aviation and artillery. Avdiivka effectively existed in a state of constant combat and became a symbol of a frontline town, where every metre was of strategic importance.
